3F Waste Recovery is a clean technology company founded and operated out of Newfoundland, Canada. We work hand-in-hand with local fishers, farmers and foresters to extract premium quality, sustainable and natural ingredients from their by-products.
At 3F Waste Recovery, the focus is on sustainability and creating a circular economy. We prevent wastes, or resource by-products as we prefer to call them, from going to landfill and being dumped at sea by developing full, value-added product lines that utilize every part of the fish harvests, forest resources and agricultural by-products.
While we do offer consumer products including pet treats, seafood compost, wool fleece bedding and more, our marine collagen has potential applications in medical research, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, nutraceuticals and more. It is the purest and lightest commercially available collagen today at an average of 3 kilodaltons, offering lab-grade collagen quality at commercial market volume and pricing. In renewable energy, our technology helps recapture woody biomass waste from forestries back into wood pellets, to be used in wood stoves for clean solid renewable biofuel heating.
Our goal is to become the regional leader for environmental stewardship, full product utilization and manufacturing innovation in order to change the way the fish, farm and forest industries operate in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. From there, we hope to bring our business model to a larger market abroad.
Why your idea is a “winner"?:
Our business model of creating a circular economy will help generate a fully sustainable, post-scarcity world for future generations. We are already seeing value added to decreased resource consumption through our present fishery-derived products, and we are rapidly expanding into products derived from farm and forestry by-products as well. We are currently working on a software to help expand our model across the globe, as climate change solutions must be global in nature. Our business model has proven highly successful in North America, and we hope to bring it to Europe as well through the licensing of our technology. With the value generated by our products then reinvested into local communities, we can help create stable, high-paying jobs in rural areas to offset the effects of globalization.
What is your current or intended business/revenue model?:
For our collagen, we intend to sell directly to consumers on a subscription base, and also provide white-label reseller DTC subscriptions. We will manufacture pet treats and compost to fully utilize the by-product stream through related companies that strategically secure our access to the raw materials for collagen as demand requires.
Do you have any Patent or IP registered (related to the solution that you are looking for an investment)?:
Yes, we have full ownership of our IP and trade secrets.
Has your technology already been implemented in any field/sector?:
Yes, our technology is moving beyond prototype into pilot-scale production in our collagen. Our pet treats and compost are already in production and selling profitably across Canada.
Which market and customer need(s)/problem(s) is (are) your products(s)/service(s) going to solve?:
Our main priority is reducing waste in the fishing, farming and forestry industries, and generating more value for the same amount of natural resources consumed. This ensures resources remain stable in the face of a growing population. Presently, our pet treats, fish compost and marine collagen give us the chance to use 100% of each fish we receive, generating profits ten times more than current manufacturing processes and resource utilization..
As an added benefit, the revenue generated from these products can be reinvested in the areas in which they are manufactured. Therefore, we can help small, rural communities create stable, high-paying, permanent jobs, bringing new growth to formally disadvantaged areas.
Our second priority is renewable energy, through a new generation of our recovered wood pellets from mountainous historic piles of sawdust spread throughout outport forests. Recovered from woody biomass generated from sawmills and lumber mills, these wood pellets can help provide clean energy particularly in rural areas difficult to connect to a power grid with a near zero cost feedstock. Our wood pellet and briquette formulations are actively in development, but provide a vital use for the byproducts from lumber, paper and wood industries. Once ready, they can provide clean heating options for homes across Europe via Newfoundland’s strategically located shipping ports.
Our most valuable intellectual property is the world’s cleanest and purest marine collagen made from coldwater fish skins, and all the applications it offers to industries. We offer the first green industrial scale extraction of 100% pure, clean fish collagen, using our proprietary bioreactor equipment and blend of cold adaptive enzymes that eliminate wastewater challenges, and water circulation and filtration technologies that reduce water use by 80%. The end result is the first 100% pure, residue-free, additive-free cod collagen peptide powder at an average of 3 kilodaltons, suitable for 3D printing medical implants, organs, tissues and pill capsules. It also has potential applications in cosmetics and nutraceuticals as well, providing a wealth of possibilities across multiple industries.

Ben Wiper graduated from the University of Waterloo with a double major in economics and applied studies with a finance specialization. He has owned and operated his own businesses since 2006, including an IT consulting, property rental, restaurant, and consulting firms. As an employee, Ben has served as general manager at a fish processing plant
and director of finance at a value-added salmon manufacturer.
Jamie Corby has served as a financial advisor for over seven years in both Canada and his native UK. With a degree in Business Law from London’s BPP University Law School, he
brings versatile financial management experience to help 3F expand responsibly and sustainably.
