About my Start-up
B-Plas srl is an innovative startup focused on sustainable technology, specializing in the conversion of organic waste into valuable resources. Founded with the mission to tackle two major global challenges—waste management and plastic pollution—B-Plas developed a proprietary process that transforms biomass into biodegradable plastics and other eco-friendly materials.
The company’s core technology is based on producing polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs), a family of fully biodegradable bioplastics synthesized through bacterial fermentation. Unlike conventional plastics derived from fossil fuels, PHAs degrade naturally in soil and water without leaving harmful residues. This makes them ideal for packaging, agriculture, and medical applications, where sustainability and performance must go hand in hand.
B-Plas stands out for its circular economy approach: it leverages organic waste—such as food scraps, agricultural by-products, and industrial residues— and municipal and industriale wastewaters as feedstock. This not only reduces landfill use and greenhouse gas emissions but also creates a closed-loop system that turns waste into value.
In addition to its environmental benefits, B-Plas emphasizes economic scalability, designing modular systems that can be integrated into existing waste treatment facilities. This enables municipalities and businesses to turn disposal costs into revenue streams while contributing to global carbon neutrality targets.
Through partnerships with research institutions and industrial players, B-Plas continues to refine its technology and expand into international markets.
We envision a world where waste is no longer a problem, but a resource powering a sustainable future.
Why your idea is a “winner"?:
B-Plas is a game-changer in the sustainability market, transforming organic waste—an expensive problem for industries and municipalities—into high-value biodegradable plastics (PHAs). Unlike most bioplastics that compete with food crops, B-Plas uses waste as feedstock, creating a true circular economy solution. With EU regulations banning single-use plastics and tightening waste disposal laws, demand for scalable, eco-friendly alternatives is skyrocketing. B-Plas technology is modular, cost-effective, and integrates seamlessly with existing waste facilities, turning disposal costs into profit. It addresses two major global challenges—waste management and plastic pollution—while aligning with ESG goals, making it a future-proof, regulation-driven, and highly profitable solution.
What is your current or intended business/revenue model?:
Today the business model is a B2B model, based on selling engineering studies and industrial plants.
As soon as the first industrial plants will be running, we' plan to add a B2B model based on services to our plants adopters: maintenance, process optimization, process advisory.
Do you have any Patent or IP registered (related to the solution that you are looking for an investment)?:
we registered 2 patents in Italy, both pending and undergoing PCT extension.
Has your technology already been implemented in any field/sector?:
we run a pilot plant (1.000 ton/y entry feed) for 2 years in a biorefinery in the North of Italy.
we're commissioning our first demo plant (fully commissioned and payed by customer) in a municipal WWT plant in Milan (Italy).
we're waiting authorization to build to more demo plants in Mantova (1.800 ton/y entry feed) and Ravenna (5.000 ton/y entry feed), co-funded by "CROtonic acid from Sewage Sludge LIFE21-ENV-IT-CROSS-LIFE" project.
Which market and customer need(s)/problem(s) is (are) your products(s)/service(s) going to solve?:
Waste Management: Municipalities, industrial plants, and food-processing companies seeking cost-effective ways to reduce organic waste and landfill use.
Bioplastics & Sustainable Materials: Packaging, agriculture, and medical sectors replacing conventional plastics with biodegradable alternatives due to EU regulations and consumer demand for sustainability.
Circular Economy Solutions: Companies aiming for zero-waste strategies and carbon neutrality as part of ESG goals.
