About my Start-up

ecorbio Ltd. is a technology company, formally established in 2020, which specialises in breakthrough biopolyol production R&D activities, technologies and end-use products. The expertise and know-how of our core team, originally stemming from several years of applied research experience in the fields of waste biomass valorisation, thermochemical conversion, process engineering, prototyping and analytics research, has been developed further via the work on the TRL6 prototype production line established in Geri Industrial Area, Cyprus. In fact, the ecorbio team remains the only one having yielded promising results by using the low-value waste biomass from municipal and industrial facilities. The uniqueness of the validated technology relies on integrating bio-refinery concepts by valorizing widely-available and otherwise recalcitrant industrial biomass residues and waste directly and at scale.

Why your idea is a “winner"?:

The materials' space is lagging behind. Despite the industry's motivation to change, there is little room for compromises when it comes to sustainability, quality and price. Our technology allows instant environmental impact reduction through displacing conventional chemicals with ones derived from industrial residues and waste biomass. It offers an opportunity for pragmatic, incremental impact to be achieved within multi-billion euro industries.

What is your current or intended business/revenue model?:

Enter the biopolyol market at low production volumes ourselves, and aim for quick market uptake through leveraging on low selling prices.

Do you have any Patent or IP registered (related to the solution that you are looking for an investment)?:

Patent pending.

Has your technology already been implemented in any field/sector?:

Not yet, we are at TRL6, with tech validation at commercially-relevant pilot scale (1 ton/day).

Which market and customer need(s)/problem(s) is (are) your products(s)/service(s) going to solve?:

Construction and building industries need to become greener but often cannot afford sustainable alternatives. Large polyurethane producers still rely on fossil or food-competitive ingredients - polyols, key chemicals in synthesizing the widely used group of polymers. Our product is more sustainable, European and price competitive - perfect for displacing a significant fraction of conventional analogues.
