About my Start-up

OMN9 harnesses the potential of indigenous Indian crops to develop novel plant-protein isolates with a complete essential amino acid profile, while being free from all common allergens. Using sustainable, green extraction processes, we produce high-quality proteins that serve as key ingredients for formulating and fortifying plant-based food and beverages. Our solution addresses nutritional deficiencies while significantly reducing the environmental footprint compared to traditional animal-based protein sources. By promoting sustainable agriculture and smart protein alternatives, we contribute to a lower carbon impact, reduced water usage, and a more resilient food system.

Why your idea is a “winner"?:

Our idea is a “winner” because it is commercially viable today, not years away from regulatory approvals or scale-up or cost economies. We are building on a foundation that already exists: the robust agricultural value chains developed over centuries, particularly in India, which give us a predictable, scalable, and cost-effective raw material base. Combined with our years of hands-on experience in this domain, we are equipped with a deep understanding of crop seasonality, price cycles, and supply planning, giving us a decisive advantage in execution and scalability.

From a sustainability perspective, the impact is undeniable. With the same land resources, a fully plant-based food system could nourish 17 billion people, far beyond the projected 10 billion by 2050. Plants offer diverse nutritional and functional profiles that already meet the formulation needs of alternative animal foods, but at a fraction of the resource use and emissions.

The global agricultural economy is massive and deeply entrenched, making plant-based proteins the logical and scalable next step to power the future of food sustainably. While fermentation and cultivated technologies are valuable complements, they remain capital-intensive and limited in near-term impact. In contrast, we are unlocking novel, high-functionality proteins from plants, ingredients that are affordable, clean, and ready to scale.

We already have two innovative ingredients in the pipeline and a clear roadmap to build a next-generation platform for plant protein innovation. Our approach is not just about creating alternatives, it is about transforming the way the world thinks about plant proteins: accessible, functional, and future-ready.

What is your current or intended business/revenue model?:

B2B Sales of plant protein ingredients and by-products of the process (Starch & Fibre).
Launching own brand of B2C CPG products made with our functional plant proteins in the long term.

Do you have any Patent or IP registered (related to the solution that you are looking for an investment)?:

Trademark

Has your technology already been implemented in any field/sector?:

Similar, yes.
However, our exact process remains proprietary.

Which market and customer need(s)/problem(s) is (are) your products(s)/service(s) going to solve?:

The growing global demand for high-quality proteins puts immense pressure on existing food systems, with heavy reliance on animal-derived proteins like whey, beef, pork, and poultry. These proteins are unsustainable due to their environmental footprint, resource inefficiency, and ethical concerns. For instance, producing 1 kg of animal protein often requires 2-10x more land, water, and energy compared to plant-based alternatives, contributing to deforestation, greenhouse gas emissions, water and biodiversity loss. Moreover, the limited variety of plant-based proteins (soy, pea, rice) in the market often fails to meet consumers’ nutritional and functional expectations, as majority of plant-proteins lack a complete amino acid profile and have limited sensory and functional attributes. For food and beverage companies, formulating with plant proteins also poses challenges like undesirable flavours, allergen risks, and inconsistent functionality, thus, limiting innovation.
In regions like India, protein deficiency remains a grave concern (>74% of population), exacerbated by the high vegetarian population (>39%). OMN9 is addressing these multifaceted issues by developing high-quality, allergen-free, complete plant proteins derived from indigenous Indian crops, offering a sustainable and functional solution to bridge the nutritional gap while reducing the environmental burden & animal exploitation of traditional protein sources.
