About my Start-up
We are building a solution that brings automation to berry plantations and limits the use of chemicals through the means of technology.
Our product identifies diseases and pests on fruit bush plantations on the fly. The Disease Recognition Module, attached to a tractor, consists of dedicated cameras scanning the bushes. The pictures are processed by an image recognition algorithm, supported by a machine learning model, identifying potential threats. In case of a positive detection, Spraying Controller triggers spraying for endangered areas of the plantation. Thanks to that, chemicals are applied only where they are needed.
Why your idea is a “winner"?:
It brings cutting-edge technology and innovation to industry, with a lot of potential, that desperately needs such solutions.
What is your current or intended business/revenue model?:
Our intended business model is a subscription, Hardware as a Service model. We will provide services for protecting the plantations during the season. Owners of the plantations in exchange will pay a monthly fee, dependent on the size of the plantation.
Do you have any Patent or IP registered (related to the solution that you are looking for an investment)?:
We are in the process of protecting the Patent and IP.
We've started by receiving funding as a part of the project EU "Ideas powered for business SME" (decision number 1320248330-1) to perform IP Scan and protect our trademark.
As our product will be developed, we will be requesting IP protection for those parts as well.
Has your technology already been implemented in any field/sector?:
The technologies that we are using in our product (spectroscopy, image recognition and machine learning models) have been widely used in other sectors. However, what’s unique about our solution, is bringing all this technology together and introducing it to the agriculture industry.
Which market and customer need(s)/problem(s) is (are) your products(s)/service(s) going to solve?:
Agriculture, and specifically fruit bush plantations, face growing problems of:
- Extensive use of chemicals on plantations to protect the plants (~ 7 tonnes of chemicals per 1ha over a season)
- The rising cost of plant protection products (both conventional and ecological)
- The rising cost of petroleum used extensively in tractors
That all adds up to the overarching problem relevant to the plantation owners: the profitability of their endeavour. In addition to that, they face an imminent transformation into ecological plantations, because of consumer awareness, supported by European legislation (e.g. From Farm to Fork), for which they are not yet prepared.
The customers and users of our product are owners of large (>10ha), fruit bush plantations. The types of supported fruits include black currants, red currants, raspberries, and vines.
